Big updates on my side project NICyc if you haven’t checked it in awhile! Lots of new scripts in the background to automate so much of the tedius work I had been doing throughout the year shuffling things around manually. Everything is now managed in a nice spreadsheet that I dump into a SQLite database and from there I can just run some Python scripts to export all sorts of goodies! This gives the site all sorts of dynamic database-like features while still keeping the site cheap and fast to host.
Here is a run down:
- New views and exports
- Projected dates and event order from previous year events
- Chronological ordering as default page
- Geographical data added with mapped view and event links
- PDF export with link in the About section
- Calendar view and iCal (Google Calendar) links in the About section
- Able to add to site calendar via shareable Google Calendar link
- No more manual updates for me, just edit in (shareable) spreadsheet and deploy
- Cross Training section
- Links/Services consolidation
- Event submission form in the About section
- More events of course
- RSS feed that might actually be useful, will feed in events 3 weeks ahead on site update
- Each event also has it’s own automatically generated post that could host an event site for smaller events that don’t have their own.
